Small Habits = Big Change
The easiest way to be successful with your wellness journey is to incorporate small, easy changes into your routine and over time these will become seamless daily habits. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts or magic pills to wellness success - you have to show up for yourself every day. That can be easier said than done, so here are a few tips that I use with clients to find success. After all, the job description of a health coach is an expert at behavioral change! So if you are wanting some extra support in continuing with your journey or are hoping to re-commit to making this your best year yet, come back to these tips:
1) WHY – you are hoping to make these changes for a reason. What is it? Always come back to this when things are hard or you feel like giving up.
2) VISUALIZE – Let’s take your WHY one step farther. Spend some time thinking about what it will feel like when you reach your goals. How does it feel to be in your body now? What thoughts do you have about yourself? How does it feel to walk through the world having shown up for yourself day after day? Once you get a taste of what this success will feel like, all you have to do is take one small step after another and keep going until you get there.
3) PREPARE – set up for success by making new habits as easy as possible. Wanting to be consistent with morning workouts? Set out a cute workout outfit the night before. Hoping to eat a little better? Have prepped options that you actually like right in your face when you open the fridge or pantry. What other easy positive triggers can you set up to make your new habits a little easier? A little preparation goes a LONG way.
4) CONSISTENCY > PERFECTION – no one is perfect. If you slip, don’t beat yourself up and instead refocus. You don’t have to wait until Monday or even the next day to “get back on track.” The goal is long term success and there will be bumps in the road. Expect this, be kind to yourself, and move forward.
5) CHECK IN – goals will change. Check in with yourself to make sure what you wanted and are working towards is still the direction you want to go. Change is completely normal!
Good luck, you got this!
